Apple introduced a new model of iMac featuring their M1 chips at their Spring Loaded event on April 20th. The new iMacs come in a redesigned slim model, with seven different colours and an improved 1080p FaceTime camera. The base model features 8GB of RAM, 256GB of SSD storage and can be upgraded to 16GB of RAM and 2TB of SSD. The entry-level model has two USB-C/Thunderbolt ports, with a higher-end model adding two more USB-C ports. The headphone jack also remains. The new power cord also features an Ethernet port.
Serato has announced support for Apple’s latest macOS Big Sur and their new Silicon M1 chips. The new update – version 2.5 – includes support for the operating system released last year as well as Apple’s new in-house, tailored microchips, the first they’ve built themselves. The result is a much faster, smoother Mac experience, without a huge price increase. Many pro audio and DJ companies initially advised against updating to the new system while they updated their software and hardware for the new chips.
Pioneer DJ has announced a new series of updates that means their products will work with macOS Big Sur, Apple’s latest operating system. On an update on their website, the DJ giants revealed a list of products that will work with the new OS, including CDJ-3000, DJM-900nxs2 and their DDJ series of controllers. Native Instruments has announced that Traktor is now compatible with macOS Big Sur. The popular DJ software is now also tweaked to work with Apple’s new Silicon M1 chips. NI had previously announced that users should avoid updating to Apple’s new OS, with some testing reporting hardware and software problems.
Apple has launched a new pair of headphones called AirPod Max. They’re their first over-ear headphones from Apple, and feature "incredible high-fidelity audio, Adaptive EQ, Active Noise Cancellation, and spatial audio". The headphones drivers designed by Apple and are 40mm, with memory foam pads and they're are powered by the Apple’s H1 chip.
Apple’s new macOS Big Sur was released yesterday, Thursday, November 12th. With it comes the usual aesthetic and internal change, including new Safari features, restyled GUI, new Control Centre and Notification Centre.
