The first wave of acts slated to perform at DJ Mag’s Best of British Awards party have been announced. Limited £6 tickets are on sale now!
Glaswegian party-starter Denis Sulta, nominated in the Best DJ category, will bring his usual high-velocity, playful selections and style to the party, which takes place on Wednesday 11th December at London’s Steel Yard.
A new 3,500-capacity club has opened in Bristol, Area 404, run by the crew behind the legendary Boomtown Fair, a former Best of British nominee festival.
The venue launched last weekend, kicking off with a huge Halloween party featuring Croydon rapper Nadia Rose, Special Request, dub heroes Trojan Soundsystem, techno-ist Edetto and d&b head Mutant Dance.
Paul Woolford’s new music video is a nostalgic love letter to the golden age of rave, made to accompany the fittingly uptempo piano bomb 'You Already Know', featuring Karen Harding on vocals.
The Leeds-based producer is no stranger to celebrating halcyon days gone by, and has employed the services of director Joe Wilson— known for work with Bicep— to realise the comic, if bittersweet, story of one lone dance disciple acting out the stages involved in getting ready for, and then getting sweaty in, a warehouse party.
Following the announcement of four albums from Paul Woolford's Special Request alias earlier this year, the news landed today of album 'Bedroom Tapes'.
The first chapter in an archive series, 'Bedroom Tapes' is comprised of cassette recordings found by Woolford in the process of moving house.
The tapes have been mastered by Matt Colton, who has previously mastered recordings for Coldplay, George Michael, James Blake and Flume.
Paul Woolford has a busy year in store with his Special Request alias, with four new albums set for release via Houndstooth.
The first one is titled VORTEX, while full details on the other three albums are as-yet unconfirmed. Woolford says he "had a right fucking doss" making the records, while Houndstooth's - the label that will be releasing the LPs - press release describes the tracks on the albums as "strictly bowel-evacuating bangers".
You can listen to the lead track from VORTEX, 'SP4NN3R3D', below. The album's out on May 31st.
Nina Kraviz and Anastasia Kristensen have contributed remixes to a new Special Request EP.
'Through The Looking Glass' drops on 27th July on Houndstooth and sees Kraviz remix ‘Curtain Twitcher’ twice and Kristensen providing a stellar rework of 'Tiresias' — both originally lifted from Special Request’s 2017 album ‘Belief System’.
‘Looking Glass’ is a new track from Paul Woolford's Special Request alias.
Listen to one of Kraviz's remixes of 'Curtain Twitcher' below.
