Roland might be about to bring back the iconic TR-909 drum machine.

The company has dropped a huge hint that they might be getting set to re-release the iconic drum machine, after announcing a “909 Celebration Event’ for Friday 9th September, which will see a series of products revealed during a global livestream.

Software engineer Vincent Jackson launched his iO-808 to mark 808 day on August 8, which is the most accurate browser-based replica of Roland’s classic drum machine yet.

Jackson has paid close attention to detail on the iO-808, ensuring that everything down to the typeface is authentic, whilst all the pads, instrument select and tone dials are where you would expect.

iTunes and Apple Music are both set to release music documentary '808' later this year — a film that tracks the history of the iconic Roland TR-808. 

Produced by You Know Films' Alex Noyer and famed musician Arthur Baker, the film will also drop in US cinemas later this year and features cameos from New Order, Diplo, Goldie, David Guetta, Richie Hawtin, Rick Rubin and many more.

Details leaked online have confirmed that Roland is to release updated versions of it’s classic synths.

A pre-order listing page featuring photos of Roland’s Boutique range revealed that Jupiter 8, Juno 106 and JX-3P models are all to receive updates.

Unlike the originals, the new models are digital and come with additional waveforms that expand their sound capabilities over the originals.

All three models will be sold in module form and can slot into an optional keyboard called the K-25m, which features velocity sensitive keys.

Roland are dropping the new Aira System 1 Synth to the masses this Thursday night with a world premier perfromance  and a rather special Q & A from Marshall Jefferson, Luke Solomon, Sister Bliss and Adamski.

“Since becoming the lucky owner of the Roland Jupiter 8, it has become the central piece of my studio. As a crazy synth collector I already have lots of Roland gear like the Juno60, Sh2, Sh8, MC202.
