A new record store has opened its doors in Detroit.

Specialising in house, jazz, R&B and soul, Spot Lite is based at 2905 Beaufait St. in the Islandview neighbourhood on the city’s east side. As well as a record store, the 5,000 square-foot space also features a gallery, music venue and bar.

The space is the latest enterprise by Roula David and Jesse Cory, who co-run boutique publishing house 1xRun (one-time-run), releasing limited-edition prints and original artwork by artists from Detroit and further afield.

Moodymann, Theo Parrish, Rick Wilhite and Marcellus Pittman have released a 3 Chairs retrospective compilation.

Released under their collaborative alias, 3 Chairs, the legendary Detroit DJs and producers present '3 Chairs Collection (1997​-​2013)' - a collection of 35 tracks spanning almost two decades.

The collection includes a number of records which were previously only available on vinyl, with a handful of tracks featuring the likes of Bill Beaver, Norma Jean Bell, Amp Fiddler and Bubz Fiddler.

Detroit techno veteran DJ Minx has released a new track, 'Blind Amerikkka'.

The politically-charged track marks the first release of 2021 from Minx's Women On Wax record label, and sees her team up with New York DJ, producer and spoken word artist E-Man who makes his first appearance on the label. E-Man offers a vocal message about the current state of America over Minx's instrumental, asking, "Just how blind will America be?"

Inner City and Idris Elba have collaborated with youth-led organisation, Detroit Will Breathe, for a powerful new music video, ‘We All Move Together’.

Directed by Kurt Schneider, the video was filmed in Detroit with hundreds of members of D.W.B - a collective born in the heat of the resurgence of the Black Lives Matter movement this summer. 

With some footage filmed during a protest, the video aims to promote unity by shedding a light on the work the organisation does to fight against police brutality and systemic racism in the city.

Underground Resistance’s Mark Flash is launching a new label, Detroit Techno Funk Association. 

The digital-only imprint's debut release lands on 20th November, and is the first in a new EP series, 'Hors D'oeuvres', which aims to platform DJ tools and "snack tracks" aimed squarely at the floor. 

Detroit DJ and producer Waajeed has shared plans for the Underground Music Academy, which will open at an address on the city's East Grand Boulevard. 

The project, inspired by the legendary techno outfit Underground Resistance, will welcome students to the site from 2022, with online tutorials starting next year, free of charge to all. 

Robert Hood has announced a new album.

Detroit pioneer and Underground Resistance co-founder Hood, who released a split EP with his DJ/producer daughter Lyric back in August, has revealed the details of his forthcoming album, 'Mirror Man'.

The 14-track LP, incoming via Radio Slave's Rekids imprint, moves from cinematic techno and warehouse-ready stompers, through to ambient beats and slower tempos.

A crowdfunder has been launched for The Book of Drexciya, Vol.2.

In February this year, Gentrified Underground released a 12-track compilation, 'Bubble Chamber', following an exhibition of the same name, alongside a 56-page book celebrating the work of mysterious Detroit duo Drexciya.
