Among the most respected of electro’s new(ish) breed is Liverpool’s Reedale Rise (Simon Keat). His debut album, after appearances on mainstays such as Frustrated Funk, expands his vision for super-deep, warm electro grooves. On ‘Kerris’, he makes use of those classic mechanistic basslines Derrick May and later B12 favoured, throwing them over swung electro beats and vapour trails of synth, while ‘Distance Between Waves’ is a sublime marriage of rolling bass and crispy beats, draped with acid bleeps and horizon gazing pads. Sublime headphone listening, in a similar zone to Cygnus or Plant 43.
