One of the most eagerly awaited albums of the year is imminent via BBE. JOHN MORALES' 'The M&M Mixes' is a wonderfully nostalgic collection of some of the finest disco-boogie from the late-'70s and early-'80s created by one of the true trailblazers of the era and a man who firmly helped establish the remix as a true art form. From his early work with PATRICK ADAMS & GREG CARMICHAEL working such epochal recordings from the UNIVERSAL ROBOT BAND, INNER LIFE and LOGG, to his remixes for the likes of CLASS ACTION, RONNIE DYSON, CURTIS HAIRSTON and JULIA & COMPANY, Morales set the bench mark. The album includes a plethora of previously unreleased material, unheard mixes from the vaults and long out of print classics. Every collection deserves this album.
The second edit of the wicked hip and innovative 'Credit To The Edit' series compiled, spliced, edited and remixed by GREG WILSON is imminent on Tirk Recordings in December. Four years on and the former Hacienda DJ finally finds time to complete this long-overdue sequel, which unlike the first instalment places greater emphasis on the last decade's music. Re-edits of ROXY MUSIC'S 'Love Is The Drug', A GUY CALLED GERALD'S 'Voodoo Ray', 'Dirty Talk' from KLEIN & MBO and ORCHESTRAL MANOEUVRES IN THE DARK'S 'Messages' are the standouts on a solidly consistent set.
MICHAEL JACKSON 'The Remix Suite' assembles over 20 of the late artist's solo and JACKSON 5 releases from the Motown vaults, and with the help of contemporary remixes adds a new twist to the likes of 'Dancing Machine' and 'ABC' by hip-hop heavyweights like the NEPTUNES, DALLAS AUSTIN, SWIZZ BEATZ, Q-TIP and RODNEY JERKINS. The house fraternity is represented by FRANKIE KNUCKLES ('Forever Came Today'), DAVID MORALES ('I Want You Back'), PAUL OAKENFOLD and STEVE AOKI (both alternate versions of 'Dancing Machine') and disco don DIMITRI FROM PARIS ('I Want You Back').
Stealth Records have a fantastic release schedule planned with new singles from LAIDBACK LUKE & GREGOR SALTO featuring MAVIS AQUAH on the electro-etched 'Step By Step', '2Gether' from ROGER SANCHEZ and NICK BRIDGES with vocalist AMANDA WILSON on the uplifting 'Underneath My Skin', plus there's a smashing new 'Stealth Live!' compilation mixed by DIRTY VEGAS also on the schedule.
Almost a decade since first appearing on King Street Sounds sporting soul-etched house versions from MAURICE JOSHUA, the truly wondrous 'Jump Into The Water 2009', from ROLAND CLARK'S URBAN SOUL collective, returns bigger, bolder and more essential then ever before. The in-demand NICOLA FASANO & STEVE FOREST remix team (aka FISH & CHIPS) offer a chunkier European house edge that melds beautiful piano chords with SHAWNEE TAYLOR on vocal delivery.
In other ROLAND CLARK news, 'Flowerz', his soul seductive 1999 Top 20 UK hit with ARMAND VAN HELDEN has been re-recorded by the singer for a reissue on his own Delete imprint as the retitled 'Flowers Revised'.
New Zealand's hardest working DJ, producer and artist, JOLYON PETCH, has recorded a highly credible cover of EVERYTHING BUT THE GIRL'S 'Wrong' for his Sound Conducterz label, with an equally cosmopolitan package of versions covering almost every dancefloor by SOLITAIRE, DARWIN & BACKWALL, GREG STAINER, JOJO DA SILVA & MR GOLD.
Data Records have wisely signed DUCK SAUCE'S sublime house banger 'aNYway'. From the warped minds of A-TRAK and ARMAND VAN HELDEN, the duo combine on one hell of a slab of dance music based on an old disco track from FIRST EDITION ('I Can Do It Anyway You Want It' for all you train spotters out there!) To further cement their chances of a pop crossover, they've also drafted in NORMAN COOK on a rare remix excursion.
